J S MELBOURNE WINS HALL OF FAME CERTIFICATE
Bayswater based J S Melbourne Controls was today presented
with a certificate of Manufacturing Excellence from Victoria's
Manufacturing Hall of Fame by Manufacturing Industry Minister
Rob Hulls.
Mr Hulls said J S Melbourne Controls deserved to be hailed as
a Victorian manufacturing hero because of its outstanding work
in developing and manufacturing safe and environmentally friendly
handling equipment.
"J S Melbourne's new Hydro Shear Mixer provides a safe and
efficient way of transporting and mixing liquids and powders in
an enclosed pipe, totally eliminating the need for human contact
and avoiding cross contamination," Mr Hulls said.
"This will significantly boost workplace safety and environmentally
sound practice in many industries where liquids and powders are
mixed including the food, pharmaceutical, paints, water and treatment
industries.
J S Melbourne's achievements in 2001 include: the Manufacturing
Environmental Solution of the Year; the Australian Manufacturing
Entrepreneur of the Year; the Australian Manufacturing R &
D Project of the year; and the Australian Design Award in Engineering
Design.
"Those
awards are in addition to several Health & Safety awards
won in previous years," Mr Hulls said.
"J S Melbourne has also received international recognition,
including the silver medal and a diploma at the Global Geneva
Inventors award held in Switzerland in April 2001."
Victoria's
Manufacturing Hall of Fame, established by the Bracks Government
in partnership with key industry associations, recognises outstanding
achievements in Victorian manufacturing.
"Victorian manufacturers are the unsung heroes of our economy.
Manufacturing employs around 350,000 Victorians and last year
exported a record $7.4 billion-worth of products. But most Victorians
know more about their footy team than this $50 billion industry,"
Mr Hulls said.
"So we set up the Manufacturing Hall of Fame as a key showcase
for our manufacturing strengths to raise the national and international
profile of Victorian companies. It also promotes the fact that
advanced manufacturing offers a great future for young Victorians."
The
Hall offers three levels of recognition for Victorian-based manufacturers:
A Certificate of Manufacturing Excellence for manufacturers
who have received awards from the Industry Association or other
recognised industry bodies;
Induction into the Hall for sustained manufacturing excellence;
and
Registration on the Hall's Honour Roll for individuals,
organisations and companies acknowledged by the Manufacturing
Industry Consultative Council as having made exceptional contributions
to Victorian manufacturing excellence.
"Members of the Hall will be able to display the Hall of
Fame symbol, the hallmark of Victorian manufacturing success,
that will label members' products as world class because they're
Victorian-made," Mr Hulls said.
